# Liquid Screed Cost In South Wales What You Should Expect To Pay

Honest guidance on liquid screed prices per square metre, the things that push a quote up or down, and the practical ways to keep a pour cheap without ending up with a floor your tiler has to re-prep.

## Liquid Screed Prices Per m2

Across the South Wales valleys, Cardiff, Newport and Swansea, most domestic flowing screed work lands in the region of **£14 to £22 per m2** supplied and pumped at a typical depth of 50mm to 75mm. Larger commercial pours can sit below that band; single small rooms sit above it, because the wagon, the pump and the crew cost the same whether you are laying 20m2 or 200m2.

Treat those numbers as a planning range, not a quotation. Screed is priced on volume rather than area, so depth matters as much as floor size, and access can move a price more than either. Every figure we issue is confirmed in writing after survey.

## What Actually Drives Your Price

### Depth and volume

Screed is sold by volume. A 75mm floor uses half again the material of a 50mm floor over the same area. Bonded, unbonded, floating and UFH build-ups all carry different minimum depths.

### Access for pump and wagon

A clear standing position near the door is the cheapest scenario. Long hose runs, tight side passages, rural lanes and street permissions all add time on site.

### Condition of the prep

Sealed DPM, taped laps, edge insulation and pressure-tested pipework mean we pour and leave. Unfinished prep means either a return visit or remedial time, both of which cost.

### Programme and batching

A pour that fits alongside other work in your area shares delivery and set-up efficiency. A single isolated pour at short notice does not.

## Liquid Screed Versus Sand And Cement On Cost

Traditional sand and cement screed can look cheaper on the material line. The finished-floor comparison is different. Traditional screed is laid by hand, needs greater depth over underfloor heating pipework, takes far longer to install across a large area, and is more likely to need levelling compound before a tile, vinyl or resin finish goes down.

A pumped [liquid screed floor](/services/liquid-screed) is placed in hours rather than days, flows tight to pipework so heat transfer is better, and comes off the dappling bar flat enough that follow-on trades rarely need a second prep stage. Above roughly 100m2, that usually makes it the cheaper route once labour and programme are counted, not just the mix.

If your build-up includes heating circuits, read our [underfloor heating screed](/services/underfloor-heating) page, and check the [screed drying times and aftercare guide](/guides/screed-drying-times) before you book tilers, because a floor covered too early is the most expensive mistake on this list.

## How To Get Cheap Screed Without Regretting It

- Pour everything in one visit rather than room by room.
- Finish the prep before the pour date: DPM sealed, edge strips on, pipework clipped and pressure tested.
- Give the wagon and pump the closest legal standing position, and clear the hose route.
- Confirm depth with your builder or architect early, since depth is volume and volume is money.
- Get the figure in writing after survey rather than a rough number over the phone.
- Be wary of a rate that undercuts everyone: it usually means thinner depth, weaker mix or an unlevel finish that costs more to correct.

## Costs Beyond The Screed Itself

A screed price is one line in a floor build-up. Depending on the job you may also need insulation and membrane, edge insulation strips, [floor preparation](/services/floor-preparation), [floor levelling](/services/floor-levelling) on older substrates, [concrete pump hire](/services/concrete-pump-hire) for restricted access, or [ready-mix concrete](/services/ready-mix-concrete) for the slab underneath. Getting all of it quoted together avoids the classic budget surprise halfway through the build.

## Liquid Screed Pricing FAQs

### How much does liquid screed cost per m2 in South Wales?

Most domestic flowing screed work in South Wales lands in the region of £14 to £22 per m2 supplied and pumped at a typical 50mm to 75mm depth. Small single-room pours sit at the top of that band because the pump set-up, wagon and labour are fixed costs spread over fewer metres. Every figure we issue is confirmed in writing after survey.

### Is liquid screed cheaper than traditional sand and cement screed?

Per m2 of material, traditional screed can look cheaper. Once you add the labour hours, the slower programme and the extra depth traditional screed usually needs, liquid screed is often the cheaper finished floor above roughly 100m2, and it is almost always the faster one.

### What is the cheapest way to get a floor screeded?

Pour a large area in one visit, have the floor fully prepped and the underfloor heating pressure tested before we arrive, give the wagon and pump a clear standing position, and book alongside other pours in your area. Those four things remove the costs that inflate a small job.

### Is there a minimum charge for a liquid screed pour?

Yes. Because a pour involves a pump, a ready-mix load and a crew, very small areas are priced against a minimum charge rather than purely per m2. We tell you that figure up front so there are no surprises.

### Are your quotes fixed?

Quotes are always subject to survey. Depth, access, substrate condition and the state of the prep all affect the price, so we confirm the figure once we have seen the floor or received accurate drawings and photographs.

### Do you charge for a site survey?

Surveys across our core South Wales patch are normally free. Charges may apply for surveys further afield, agreed up front.

## Want your figure?

Send us the area, the depth and a couple of photos of the access, and we will come back with a written quote after survey.
